Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare has broken his silence after an incident at Wolverhampton Wanderers’ training ground led to the cancellation of a pre-season session, Trybal News reports.

The 25-year-old reportedly remained seated on the training pitch on Monday after being instructed not to train with the club’s first team, forcing new head coach Cesar Peixoto to call off the session. Additional security was also deployed at Wolves’ Compton Park training facility following the incident.

In a statement released, Arokodare insisted his actions were driven solely by his desire to honour his contractual obligations and maintain his fitness.

Throughout my career, I have always taken great pride in conducting myself professionally and maintaining the highest training standards,” Arokodare said.

My commitment has always been to prepare myself as well as possible so that I can contribute to my teammates and the club whenever I am called upon.

I remain under contract with Wolves, and my only intention is to fulfil my responsibilities professionally by training, doing my job, and contributing to the team in accordance with that contract.”

Reports suggest the Nigerian international had been excluded from first-team training, despite remaining under contract with the club. Arokodare believes regular training is essential to keeping himself ready whenever called upon.

The latest episode comes just months after Arokodare was fined following an altercation with teammate Mateus Mane in April, an incident that limited his involvement during the closing stages of the season.

With his future at Molineux increasingly uncertain, the striker is expected to leave Wolves this summer. Turkish side Trabzonspor are reportedly close to reaching an agreement with the Championship club, while Arokodare is said to favour a move to Italian Serie A outfit Fiorentina.

As the transfer window progresses, the Super Eagles forward’s next destination remains one of the key stories involving Nigerian players in Europe.
