Trabzonspor head coach Thomas Reis has confirmed that Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu will miss Thursday’s UEFA Europa Conference League encounter against Scottish side Heart of Midlothian at Papara Park, Trybal News reports.
The 32-year-old forward sustained an injury during Trabzonspor’s 4-2 victory over Finnish club KuPS last Thursday, scoring the opening goal in the third minute before being substituted seven minutes later.
The injury also forced Onuachu to miss Monday’s Turkish Süper Lig encounter against Beşiktaş, with Reis now providing an update on the striker’s potential return.
Speaking at Wednesday’s pre-match press conference, the German tactician suggested that the Nigerian international could return for Trabzonspor’s league fixture against Rizespor on October 26.
Tomorrow will be a bit early for Mustafa, early for his return tomorrow. For Onuachu, we could say maybe the Rizespor match,” Reis told reporters.
However, if Onuachu fails to regain full fitness in time for the Rizespor encounter, he could return for the subsequent league match against Gaziantep FK on November 1.
The striker’s absence represents a setback for Trabzonspor as they prepare for their European fixture, having established himself as an important attacking option since the start of the campaign.
Onuachu has made 11 appearances across all competitions this season, including eight starts, and has scored three goals. Onuachu Ruled Out of Trabzonspor’s Conference League Clash Against Hearts
