Excitement is already building ahead of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games after organisers officially opened registration for the highly anticipated Opening Ceremony ticket ballot, Trybal News reports.
Scheduled for July 23, 2026, at the iconic OVO Hydro in Glasgow, the ceremony is expected to deliver one of the biggest entertainment spectacles in the United Kingdom next year as the Commonwealth Games officially get underway.
In a historic first for the competition, Glasgow 2026 will stage its entire Opening Ceremony indoors, transforming the Hydro into an immersive arena of music, culture, technology and live performance.
The ceremony, presented by Longines, will launch 10 days of elite sporting action and welcome athletes from 74 Commonwealth nations and territories.
Organisers revealed that the production will feature over 600 local performers alongside major entertainment acts, with the show designed to celebrate Glasgow’s creativity, Scottish heritage and the global spirit of the Commonwealth.
With demand expected to be extremely high, organisers have introduced a public ballot system for ticket allocation. Fans wishing to attend must register online between May 18 and May 26 for a chance to secure seats.
Successful applicants will be notified on June 1 before official ticket sales begin the following day.
Adult ticket prices will range from £45 to £195 across various seating categories, while concession tickets will also be made available.
Chair of Glasgow 2026, George Black, described the ceremony as a landmark moment for both the city and the Commonwealth movement.
He said the event would showcase Glasgow’s story to a global audience while welcoming athletes and supporters from around the world.
Chief Marketing and Ceremonies Officer Louisa Mahon promised a bold and energetic production unlike anything previously seen at the Games.
According to Mahon, the indoor format will allow organisers to create a high-intensity experience packed with live entertainment, visual effects and unforgettable moments.
She also confirmed that audiences can expect the ceremonial arrival of all 74 Commonwealth Batons during the show.
Executive Producer Tom Davies hinted that several surprises are already being planned as part of a world-class production led by an experienced international creative team.
The Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games are expected to draw thousands of visitors to Scotland and provide a major boost to tourism, business and the local economy.
