The Nigerian para-athletics star stunned the field with a best throw of 39.66 metres, surpassing the previous world record and sealing victory with 1,130 points under the World Para Athletics scoring system. The achievement further strengthens her reputation as one of the leading figures in global para-athletics.

Nwachukwu’s gold came after a commanding display at Scotstoun Stadium, where her record-breaking effort proved beyond the reach of the competition. Wales’ Funmi Oduwaiye secured the silver medal with a throw of 38.52m, while fellow Welsh athlete Bree Cronin claimed bronze after recording 36.00m.

Nigeria’s challenge in the event was further boosted by Destiny Agbo, who registered a personal-best throw of 33.79m to finish fifth, underlining the country’s increasing depth in the women’s para discus.

The latest success marks another milestone in Nwachukwu’s decorated career. Having first announced herself as a Commonwealth champion in Birmingham 2022, she has now rewritten the record books by extending her own world-best mark, once again proving why she remains the athlete to beat in her event.

Her victory also added another gold to Nigeria’s growing medal collection in Glasgow, taking Team Nigeria’s tally to seven gold, four silver and two bronze medals. With 13 medals already secured and more events still to come, the Nigerian contingent continues to establish itself as one of the standout teams at the Games.

Nwachukwu’s historic performance not only delivered another gold for Nigeria but also served as a powerful reminder of the country’s continued rise as a force in Commonwealth para-athletics, with its athletes consistently competing and winningon the biggest stages.
