Liverpool claimed their first home Premier League victory of the season with an impressive 2-0 win over an in form Brighton side at Anfield.
The Reds struck twice in four first half minutes to take control of the match. Pascal Gross turned Florian Wirtz’s effort into his own net before Alexander Isak doubled the lead with his sixth goal of the season.
Brighton had a chance to take the lead before Liverpool scored. Yasin Ayari fired over after the visitors produced an excellent attacking move, and his miss proved costly.
Liverpool went ahead in the 17th minute when Wirtz sent a shot towards goal. The effort appeared to be heading wide, but Gross diverted the ball into his own net.
The goal ended Brighton’s run without conceding in the league. The Seagulls had last let in a Premier League goal during their 1-1 draw with Leeds on 5 September.
Liverpool struck again just four minutes later. Bradley Barcola made an excellent run down the right and delivered a dangerous cross into the box. Isak met it with a composed volley to give the hosts a comfortable advantage.
Brighton nearly found a route back into the game when Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson lost possession while playing out from the back. Ayari seized the opportunity, but his shot struck the foot of the right hand post.

Liverpool Build Momentum Under Andoni Iraola
Liverpool managed the game well after the break to secure another important victory under manager Andoni Iraola. The result marked his first Premier League win at Anfield since replacing Arne Slot, who left the club in the summer.
The Reds have now won four matches in a row in all competitions. Their recent run also includes two home victories in the Champions League and one in the Carabao Cup.
Liverpool have responded strongly since their previous Premier League match at Anfield, when Manchester City beat them 3-0. Since that defeat, Iraola’s team have scored 14 goals in four games, with several key players making their mark in both domestic and European competition.
Brighton, meanwhile, suffered only their second defeat in 13 matches across all competitions in the 2026 to 2027 season. Despite the setback, they remained third in the Premier League table.
Liverpool climbed from fifth to fourth with the win, moving to within one point of Brighton. The result offers the Reds fresh momentum as they look to build on their recent improvement and close the gap on the teams above them.
