Nigeria’s Super Eagles have returned to Abuja following their defeat to Guinea-Bissau in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign, Trybal News reports.

The Nigerian delegation arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in the early hours of Wednesday, hours after Guinea-Bissau’s Wild Dogs defeated the Super Eagles at the September 24 Stadium in Bissau.

Guinea-Bissau scored through three different players to secure the victory, leaving Nigeria with work to do when the 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign resumes.

For now, attention turns to Nigeria’s upcoming international friendly against Russia, scheduled for October 6.

The squad is not expected to remain together in its entirety, with most players set to return to their respective clubs following the Guinea-Bissau fixture. A selected group, however, will remain with the national team and travel to Europe for the friendly.

According to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), captain Wilfred Ndidi, goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali and winger Moses Simon are among the players named in both the AFCON qualifying squad and the squad for the Russia friendly.

They are therefore expected to remain with the Super Eagles as preparations begin for the October 6 encounter.

The Russia friendly will provide the Super Eagles with an opportunity to continue their preparations before attention returns to the 2027 AFCON qualifiers.
