Manchester United’s troubles continued as Bournemouth secured a convincing 3-0 win at Old Trafford to increase the pressure on manager Michael Carrick. The defeat extended United’s winless run to eight games after another poor display from the home side.
Bournemouth, by contrast, impressed from start to finish and fully deserved all three points. The Cherries controlled key moments and punished United’s defensive mistakes to claim their fourth consecutive win in all competitions.
Much of the pre match attention focused on Bruno Fernandes. The United captain started on the bench after criticising Carrick’s tactics following Wednesday’s 4-1 defeat by Como. However, the manager described his decision to drop Fernandes as a “football decision”.
United struggled to create clear chances in the first half. Fernandes watched from the sidelines as Evanilson and Rayan missed early opportunities for the visitors.
Bournemouth eventually took the lead through a well worked set piece. Justin Kluivert delivered an excellent free kick to the back post, where Rayan found space and beat goalkeeper Senne Lammens with a controlled volley.
United’s problems grew worse just before the break. Leny Yoro slipped at a crucial moment, allowing Adrien Truffert to square the ball for Marcus Tavernier. The midfielder made no mistake, finishing into an empty net two minutes before half time.
Boos rang out around Old Trafford as the referee ended the first half. Some supporters still tried to encourage the United players as they headed down the tunnel, but the team offered little to suggest a comeback was likely.

Bournemouth Punish United’s Defensive Errors
Bournemouth continued to threaten after the restart. Evanilson thought he had scored a third early in the second half, but the assistant referee raised the offside flag. Rayan then shot straight at Lammens after another mistake from Ayden Heaven.
The visitors missed further chances to put the game beyond reach. A stumble from Lisandro Martinez opened a route to goal for Rayan, but he failed to take advantage.
Evanilson eventually sealed the victory after another costly defensive lapse. He chased a long clearance and nudged the ball past Lammens, who had rushed out of his penalty area. With the goalkeeper stranded, the Brazilian forward curled the ball into the empty net.
The result marks a remarkable turnaround for Bournemouth. They recorded their first league win of the season only last weekend, but have now won four games in a row across all competitions.
United, meanwhile, remain in serious trouble. The defeat leaves them 16th in the Premier League with seven points from eight matches, while Bournemouth climb to 13th.
The statistics underline the scale of United’s struggles at home. They have now failed to beat Bournemouth in four consecutive Premier League games at Old Trafford, conceding at least three goals in each match.
Their defensive record is also a major concern. United have kept only one clean sheet in 12 games across all competitions this season, and that came against Azerbaijani side Sabah in the Champions League. With results and performances continuing to disappoint, Carrick faces growing pressure to turn the situation around.
