Super Falcons forward Joy Omewa has completed a permanent move to Swedish Damallsvenskan side BK Häcken, signing a contract that will keep her at the club until the end of the 2029 season, Trybal News reports.
The 23-year-old striker arrives in Sweden after a remarkable spell with Danish side Fortuna Hjørring, where she established herself as one of Scandinavia’s most prolific forwards.
Omewa enjoyed a sensational 2024/25 campaign, finishing as the Danish Women’s League’s top scorer with 22 goals in 24 appearances. She played a pivotal role in Fortuna Hjørring’s domestic double, helping the club lift both the league title and the Danish Women’s Cup.
Across her four-and-a-half years in Denmark, the Nigerian striker netted 55 league goals while also making her mark in European competitions with seven goals in UEFA qualifying and continental matches.
Before moving to Sweden, Omewa had a brief stint with Nottingham Forest Women after beginning her European journey with Danish club B93 following her emergence at Nigerian side Confluence Queens.
BK Häcken’s football director, Martin Ericsson, expressed his delight at securing the Nigerian international, describing her as a complete centre-forward.
Joy is a physically dominant player with a lot of power, but she is also a striker who contributes to the play and is a killer in the box. Her instinct for scoring goals is clear, and she is always looking for the next opportunity.”
Omewa, who recently made an immediate impact on the international stage by scoring twice on her Super Falcons debut against Senegal, believes the Swedish club offers the ideal platform for the next phase of her career.
I know that BK Häcken is a fantastic club that helps its talents develop. I feel that this is the right place for me,” she said.
The forward will now turn her attention to representing Nigeria at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where she has been named in Justin Madugu’s squad. She will also reunite with new club teammate Halimatu Ayinde, who is part of the Super Falcons contingent for the continental tournament.
Omewa is expected to join BK Häcken after the conclusion of the WAFCON finals as she embarks on a new chapter in one of Europe’s most competitive women’s leagues.
