The Olympic Eagles are expected to receive a boost this weekend as four foreign-based players prepare to join the team’s training camp ahead of their 2027 Africa U-23 Cup of Nations qualifying encounter against the Democratic Republic of Congo, Trybal News reports.
The development follows the team’s unimpressive display in a friendly against Remo Stars on Sunday, where the Olympic Eagles were held to a goalless draw by the Nigeria National League (NNL) outfit.
The overseas contingent expected to link up with the team includes Abdullahi Bewene of Banik Ostrava in the Czech Republic, Peter Edokpolor of Benfica in Portugal, Isaac James of Alverca in Portugal, and Abdullahi Umar of Hradec Kralove in the Czech Republic.
The foreign-based players are expected to strengthen the squad as preparations intensify for the crucial two-legged second-round qualifying tie.
The Olympic Eagles opened camp two weeks ago as they continue their preparations for the encounter, with DR Congo scheduled to host the first leg at the TP Mazembe Stadium in Lubumbashi on Friday, November 13. The return leg will take place in Ikenne four days later.
Victory over DR Congo across the two legs will secure Nigeria a place in the third-round playoffs, scheduled for March 2027, as the team continues its quest to qualify for the 2028 Olympic Games.
