Ademola Lookman endured a subdued outing as Atletico Madrid suffered a 2-0 home defeat to Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League, bringing their nine-match unbeaten run across all competitions to an end, Trybal News reports.
The Nigerian international started on the bench and was introduced in the 59th minute, with Diego Simeone looking to inject fresh attacking impetus into his side’s performance. However, Lookman struggled to influence proceedings as Bayern maintained control of the contest.
The forward registered 18 touches, completing eight of his 12 attempted passes, but was unable to make a significant attacking contribution during his time on the pitch.
Atletico had started brightly at the Metropolitano, with Julian Alvarez going close after connecting with Alexander Sorloth’s flick-on. However, Bayern gradually grew into the contest, with Harry Kane and Lennart Karl among those threatening the hosts defence.
Despite an entertaining first half, neither side managed to register a shot on target before the interval.
Bayern returned with greater attacking intent after the restart, and their pressure eventually paid off in the 54th minute. Youngster Lennart Karl capitalised on a defensive mistake involving Robin Le Normand before producing an excellent finish past Jan Oblak.
The 18-year-old’s goal made him the fourth-youngest player to score five goals in Champions League history, behind Lamine Yamal, Kylian Mbappe and Raul.

Lookman entered the contest five minutes later, but Atletico struggled to find a way through Bayern’s organised defence.
The visitors extended their advantage in the 75th minute when Konrad Laimer finished emphatically after being set up by Kane, leaving Oblak with little chance.
Dayot Upamecano thought he had added a third late on, but his header was disallowed following a foul on Marc Pubill.
The result marked Bayern’s first-ever away victory against Atletico Madrid and extended their unbeaten run at the start of the season to 15 matches across all competitions.
Meanwhile, Simeone’s side have now recorded just one victory in their opening four Champions League matches, adding to their growing concerns over their European campaign.
