Tenerife striker Jesus de Miguel has died at the age of 30 after suffering a cardiac arrest during a match against Andorra on Monday, Trybal News reports.
The Spanish second-tier club confirmed his death on Tuesday, a day after the forward collapsed following a collision with Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono.
The match was abandoned seven minutes into stoppage time after Owono rushed out of his area to clear a long ball. The goalkeeper struck De Miguel in the chest with his knee, leaving the striker on the ground.
Medical staff treated De Miguel on the pitch for more than five minutes before an ambulance took him to hospital.
Tenerife announced his death in an emotional statement, expressing deep sadness at the loss of their player.
“Racked with pain, with a lump in our throats and unable to believe that this is true, from CD Tenerife we communicate the tragic passing of Jesus de Miguel Alameda,” the club said.
“There are no words of comfort; there is absolutely nothing that can alleviate this feeling overflowing with sadness.”
Spanish Football Pays Tribute to De Miguel
The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) postponed all matches scheduled for Tuesday following the tragedy.
The decision included fixtures in the Copa del Rey and Copa de la Reina. The governing body also cancelled the official presentation of Spain’s Under-21 international against Japan as a mark of respect.
The RFEF said the move showed solidarity with De Miguel’s family, teammates and Tenerife supporters.
Meanwhile, football clubs across Spain paid tribute to the striker and offered condolences to his loved ones.
Barcelona expressed its support in a statement, saying: “Our thoughts and support are with his family, friends and loved ones during these difficult times.”
Real Madrid also paid its respects, saying: “Real Madrid wishes to express its condolences and affection to his family, his teammates, his club, and all his loved ones.”
De Miguel’s former club Castellon shared an emotional tribute, remembering his contribution to the team and the memories he created with supporters.
“With a broken heart and no possible consolation, Club Deportivo Castellón bids farewell to Jesús De Miguel.
It’s hard to find words when reality strikes in such an unfair way. He defended this shirt with pride, celebrated goals with our fans at the SkyFi Castalia, and was part of a story that this supporter base will never forget.
We join with all our affection in the grief of his family and loved ones, whom we embrace in these terribly difficult moments and to whom we extend our most heartfelt condolences. We do so also alongside CD Tenerife and its supporters, with whom we share the same sorrow today.
You will always be one of ours, Demi.
Rest in peace.”
De Miguel was born in Madrid in 1996 and joined Tenerife from Castellon ahead of the 2025-26 campaign.
The striker scored 11 goals last season and had continued his career in Spain’s second division before the tragic incident.
