Nigeria’s Super Falcons officially opened camp in Casablanca, Morocco on Monday with nine players arriving early as preparations gather pace for the 14th edition of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), Trybal News reports.

Captain Rasheedat Ajibade leads the list of early arrivals alongside goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, veteran forward Asisat Oshoala, Glory Ogbonna, Christy Ucheibe, Fatima Oloko, Oluwatosin Demehin, Rofiat Imuran and Shukurat Oladipo.

The nine players are the first members of the 25-player squad invited by head coach Justin Madugu for the continental tournament scheduled to take place in Morocco from July 26 to August 16, 2026.

Nigeria will use Casablanca as the base for the initial phase of preparations before moving to Rabat for the group stage of the competition as the Super Falcons begin their quest to successfully defend the title they won in Morocco in 2025.

The reigning African champions will open their Group B campaign against Malawi at the Al Madina Stadium on July 28 before facing Zambia at the same venue on August 1. Their final group fixture will see them take on Egypt at the Olympic Stadium on August 5.

Nigeria heads into the tournament as the most successful nation in the history of the competition with a record ten continental titles and will be aiming to extend that dominance with another successful campaign in Morocco.

Beyond the quest for continental glory, WAFCON 2026 also serves as a qualification route for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil. The four semi-finalists will secure automatic qualification, while two additional teams will advance to the intercontinental play-offs.
