The Nigerian sprinter clocked 20.09 seconds in a fiercely contested final, finishing behind South Africa’s Sinesipho Dambile, who stormed to gold in 19.96 seconds. Jamaica’s Christopher Taylor secured bronze with a time of 20.11 seconds.

Competing against a field featuring some of the Commonwealth’s fastest athletes, Udodi Chudi produced a composed race, staying within striking distance around the bend before powering through the closing metres to secure Nigeria’s latest medal on the track.

The silver medal is another significant milestone in the 23-year-old’s journey, which began attracting global attention at the 2021 World Athletics U20 Championships in Nairobi. There, Udodi Chudi made history by becoming the first Nigerian to win the men’s 200 metres title, establishing himself as one of the country’s brightest sprint prospects.

Since that breakthrough, the Nigerian has continued to develop into a consistent performer on the international stage. He has represented the country at major global competitions, including the Olympic Games, and lowered his personal best to an outstanding 19.76 seconds, placing him among the fastest Nigerian sprinters in history.

His latest podium finish in Glasgow further demonstrates his progress at senior level and reinforces Nigeria’s growing reputation in the sprint events.

The result also reflects the continued investment in elite sports by the National Sports Commission, whose athlete-centred programmes, improved welfare initiatives and enhanced preparation have contributed to Nigeria’s strong performances throughout the Games.

Udodi Chudi’s silver adds to Team Nigeria’s growing medal tally in Glasgow as the country continues one of its most successful Commonwealth Games campaigns. With major international competitions still ahead, the performance offers further evidence that the Nigerian sprinter is continuing to establish himself among the leading 200m athletes on the Commonwealth stage.
