Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi was on target as Nottingham Forest secured a comfortable 3-0 victory over Blackburn Rovers in a pre-season friendly on Wednesday, Trybal News reports.

The encounter featured three Nigerian players, with Ola Aina starting for Forest, Awoniyi coming off the bench, and Ryan Alebiosu featuring for Blackburn before being substituted after 62 minutes.

Forest took control of the contest in the first half through Igor Jesus before extending their advantage shortly after the restart when Arnaud Kalimuendo doubled the lead.

Awoniyi then capped an impressive cameo with Forest’s third goal. The Nigerian international finished confidently from close range after latching onto a low cross from Dan Ndoye following a swift counter-attack, sealing a convincing win for the Premier League side.

The goal will be a welcome boost for the 27-year-old as he looks to impress new Forest manager Oliver Glasner ahead of the 2026/27 season. With just one year remaining on his current contract, Awoniyi’s long-term future at the City Ground remains uncertain amid ongoing transfer speculation.

Nottingham Forest continue their pre-season preparations with fixtures against Rio Ave, Vitória de Guimarães, Sporting CP, Udinese, Barcelona, Bayer Leverkusen, and Brest.

Meanwhile, fellow Super Eagles defender Ola Aina also featured in the victory, while Ryan Alebiosu continued to showcase his qualities for Blackburn Rovers as interest in the young defender continues to grow during the summer transfer window.
