The National Sports Commission (NSC) confirmed that the naira equivalent of $100,000 was paid to each D’Tigress player, while $50,000 was paid to each team official. The payments were credited to the beneficiaries’ accounts on September 9, 2026, with recipients confirming receipt.

The payment forms part of the reward package announced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu after D’Tigress secured their seventh overall AfroBasket championship.

With the latest payment, the NSC said the government has now fulfilled the full reward package promised to the team.

In addition to the cash incentive, players and officials were awarded Certificates of Occupancy for three-bedroom flats in Abuja as well as national honours of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON), signed by President Tinubu.

The property and national honour documents were presented to the team in February 2026 in Lyon, France, during the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup qualifiers.

According to the NSC, the cash payment was processed following D’Tigress final match at the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Germany.

The Commission also provided an update on the government’s reward package for the Super Falcons, who won the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations for a record-extending 10th time.

Super Falcons players and officials received their Certificates of Occupancy and OON certificates during the 2026 WAFCON in Morocco in July and August. The NSC said the footballers are expected to receive their corresponding cash payments, $100,000 equivalent for each player and $50,000 for each official before their next official engagements.

The NSC expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for his continued support for Nigerian sports and acknowledged the Ministries of Finance, FCT, Housing and Urban Development, Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, as well as the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, for their roles in facilitating the payments.

D’Tigress latest reward marks the completion of a landmark government recognition of one of Nigeria’s most successful national teams.
