Nigeria’s Super Eagles will face Russia in an international friendly on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium, according to Nigeria’s FIFA Match Agent, Jairo Pachon of Eurodatasports, Trybal News reports.

The fixture will be the second meeting between both nations in 16 months, following their 1-1 draw at Moscow’s Luzhniki Stadium on June 6, 2025.

Russia took the lead in the previous encounter through a Semi Ajayi own goal before striker Tolu Arokodare restored parity for Nigeria in the second half.

The upcoming fixture will come shortly after Nigeria’s opening matches in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.

The Super Eagles are scheduled to begin their qualification campaign against Madagascar at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on September 25, before travelling to Bissau to face Guinea-Bissau on September 29.

Nigeria will then head to Russia for the international friendly one week after their encounter with Guinea-Bissau.

The 44,000-capacity Nizhny Novgorod Stadium, which hosted matches during the 2018 FIFA World Cup, will stage Russia’s second international at the venue. The hosts previously defeated Cyprus 1-0 there in a UEFA Euro 2020 qualifier in June 2019.

Nigeria currently occupy 26th position in the FIFA world rankings, while Russia are ranked 35th.

The fixture will provide the Super Eagles with another opportunity to test themselves against European opposition as they continue preparations for upcoming competitive engagements.
