Carlos Queiroz has been reappointed as head coach of Ghana’s men’s national team after the Ghana Football Association decided to bring the experienced coach back for another spell with the Black Stars.
The 73 year old returned to the Ghana job in April and guided the team to the last 32 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Ghana’s campaign ended with a 1-0 defeat by Colombia.
Queiroz appeared to announce his departure on social media soon after the World Cup loss. However, the GFA held internal discussions and chose to re-engage the Portuguese coach.
The association has not revealed the length of Queiroz’s new contract. It did, however, say he will prepare the Black Stars for “a successful new phase on the international stage”.
“The GFA believes Queiroz’s extensive international experience, technical expertise and knowledge of the Black Stars position him strongly to lead the team into this next chapter,” the association said in its statement.

Carlos Queiroz brings vast international experience
Queiroz has built a long coaching career across several continents. He has managed Iran, Portugal and Egypt at major international tournaments, while also taking charge of South Africa, Colombia and Qatar.
The Portuguese coach also has strong ties to Manchester United. He worked as Sir Alex Ferguson’s assistant during two separate spells at the English club.
His return gives Ghana an experienced figure as the team prepares for another important period. Queiroz will now focus on the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, which begin later this month.
Ghana will compete in Group C alongside Ivory Coast, The Gambia and Somalia. However, the Black Stars have yet to confirm the dates and venues for their opening two qualifying matches.
The GFA said it will provide further details about Queiroz’s mandate in due course. For now, his immediate task is clear: guide Ghana through the AFCON qualifying campaign and begin building the team for the next chapter of Black Stars football.
