Samuel Chukwueze came off the bench and provided an assist as AC Milan were held to a 1-1 draw by Juventus on match-day 3 of the Serie A in Turin.
Milan looked set to claim a major away win after taking the lead late in the game. However, Juventus fought back and found an added time equaliser to deny the Rossoneri all three points.
The first half produced plenty of movement but little quality in the final third. Both teams created openings, although neither side could find the breakthrough before the interval.
Juventus had the first opportunity after Mario Gila made an unusual mistake during the build up. Alajbegovic collected the loose ball and carried it forward before shooting from around 20 yards. His effort, however, sailed comfortably over the crossbar.
The home side created another opening 10 minutes later. Gonzalez moved into a central position and fired from a similar distance, but Mike Maignan dealt with the effort without much trouble.
Milan then responded when Adrien Rabiot met a Goncalo Ramos lay off with a first time effort. However, his shot lacked accuracy and went well over the bar.
Juventus continued to look more dangerous as Milan struggled to build from the back. Alexis Saelemaekers lost a duel, allowing Conceicao to cut inside onto his left foot. Maignan made the save, with the ball narrowly avoiding Locatelli at the far post.
Maignan stayed alert as Conceicao threatened again with eight minutes left in the first half. A bouncing ball dropped over the defence and allowed the Portuguese winger to strike on the bounce at the near post. Once again, the Milan goalkeeper stood firm.
Samuel Chukwueze Creates Milan Breakthrough
Milan started the second half in a similar fashion, showing good intent but lacking the final touch. Juventus almost punished them when Musah gave the ball away cheaply. Conceicao took advantage and struck the base of the left post before the ball bounced away.
On the hour mark, Milan coach Amorim made a triple substitution. Saelemaekers, Diego Moreira and Rabiot left the pitch, while Alphadjo Cisse, Ruben Loftus Cheek and Samuel Chukwueze entered the game.
The changes quickly paid off. Just eight minutes after coming on, Cisse gave Milan the lead with his second goal of the season.
Milan won possession from Kolo Muani before moving the ball to Chukwueze. The Nigerian winger delivered towards the far post, where Cisse controlled the ball, cut inside onto his right foot and fired a low effort beyond Vicario.
The goal silenced the home crowd and gave Milan fresh confidence. Soon after, Loftus Cheek won a duel in midfield and raced forward. Samuel Chukwueze attempted to deliver early with the outside of his boot, but Juventus blocked the cross.
Amorim then made another change with just under nine minutes remaining. Luka Modric left the pitch to a warm reception from the travelling Milan supporters, with Ardon Jashari taking his place in the double pivot.
Juventus introduced Woltemade, whose height and hold up play gave the home attack a different option. He nearly equalised after a recycled free kick fell to him inside the box, but his spinning effort flew over the crossbar.
Milan also made another defensive change as Mario Gila, who had produced a strong performance, made way for Filippo Terracciano. The substitute moved into the right centre back position.
Juventus pushed hard as the game entered five minutes of added time. Substitute Boga drove forward from the right before unleashing a powerful shot, but Maignan gathered the ball at the second attempt.
The pressure finally produced an equaliser in the second minute of added time. Juventus played a free kick short to Koopmeiners, who delivered an excellent cross towards the far post.
Federico Gatti was waiting in the right position and rose to meet the delivery. His header struck the crossbar before going into the net, leaving Maignan with no chance.
The late goal meant Milan had to settle for a point despite leading until the final moments. Samuel Chukwueze played 30 minutes and completed seven of 13 passes. He also recorded 18 touches, eight carries and two recoveries.
For Chukwueze, the assist marked an important contribution after entering the game from the bench. Milan, meanwhile, will have to take encouragement from their performance but also frustration from conceding so late.
