Pisa striker Rafiu Durosinmi has expressed his excitement after being handed his maiden invitation to the Super Eagles squad ahead of the 2026 Unity Cup in London, Trybal News reports.
The 23-year-old forward was included in Nigeria’s squad for the tournament and his selection has been described as a major milestone in his career. Excitement was immediately shared with his family and close associates after the invitation was confirmed.
“It’s a great honour out of many talents from Nigeria and all over the world,” Durosimi told the Super Eagles media.
“I sent message to my family, and agent. They were also happy with the invitation.”
The striker admitted that wearing the colours of the Super Eagles represents the fulfilment of a lifelong dream. He revealed that the opportunity to represent Nigeria at senior level means a lot to him and is something he has always hoped for during his football journey.
“It means a lot to me. It is a great honour to put on the jersey. It is just like seeing dreams come to pass. You dreamt about playing , and representing your country and, now you have the chance.”
Rafiu Durosinmi is now expected to push for his debut when the three time African champions take on the Warriors of Zimbabwe on Tuesday. The striker also made it clear that he hopes to leave a lasting legacy with the national team and wants his time with the Super Eagles to be remembered for commitment and strong performances.
“I want to finish my career as a legend, I want to be someone that plays for Super Eagles, the name they would remember. When Durosinmi played for Super Eagles, he gave his best and was one of the best. That’s how I want to finish my career,” added Durosinmi.
The former Viktoria Plzen striker also spoke about the players he admires in the current Super Eagles setup. Victor Osimhen, Paul Onuachu and Jerome Akor Adams were highlighted as forwards he closely follows and considers role models.
“I’m not really someone that watches football, but now seeing the Super Eagles play, the person I have watched play is Osimhen. I also watch Onuachu when he plays for his club and national team. Also Akor Adams is doing great. I think they are a good example for me,” Durosinmi stated.
The invitation marks another important step in the striker’s rapid rise and gives him the opportunity to prove himself on the international stage with Nigeria.
