Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze was surrounded by family, friends, and members of the Nigerian football community on Friday, May 29, 2026, as his mother, Prophetess (Dr.) Mrs. Serah Chinyere Chukwueze, was laid to rest in Umuahia, Abia State.
The funeral ceremony drew several prominent football administrators and dignitaries, including Nigeria Football Federation President Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau, NFF First Vice President Chief Felix Anyansi-Agwu, and Anambra State Football Association chairman Chief Chikelue Iloenyosi, who all attended to support the Fulham forward during the difficult moment.

Mrs. Chukwueze passed away on January 29, 2026, and her burial rites were held in different stages across Umuahia. A church tribute service first took place at Elohim Divine Miracle Assembly before a lying-in-state ceremony was conducted at the footballer’s residence in Isieke Ibeku.
Afterwards, a funeral service was held at the Isieke Primary and Secondary School Field, where prayers and tributes were offered in honour of the deceased. She was later laid to rest at her son’s residence in Isieke Ibeku immediately after the service.

The emotional ceremony brought together mourners from different parts of the country, with many sympathising with the Super Eagles star and his family over the painful loss.
Meanwhile, Chukwueze is expected to return to national team duty in June after being included in Nigeria’s 24-man squad for the upcoming international friendlies against Poland and Portugal.
