Victor Osimhen’s influence at Galatasaray continues to grow, with the Nigerian forward expected to be among the leading contenders to assume the club’s captaincy after Mauro Icardi’s departure, Trybal News reports.
The exit of the Argentine striker leaves Galatasaray searching for a new leader to guide the squad both on and off the pitch. Icardi was a prominent figure during his time in Istanbul, contributing significantly to the club’s domestic achievements and serving as one of the senior voices within the dressing room.
Osimhen, who held the position of vice-captain last season, has steadily built a reputation as more than just the team’s focal point in attack. His commitment, competitive mentality and relationship with teammates have reportedly strengthened his case for a larger leadership role within the squad.
Since joining the Turkish giants, the Super Eagles striker has become one of the club’s standout performers, combining goals with consistent displays of determination and responsibility in crucial moments.
His growing stature within the team has not gone unnoticed by supporters or the club hierarchy, with many viewing him as a player capable of representing the values and ambitions of Galatasaray during an important phase in the club’s development.
An official decision is yet to be announced, but handing the armband to Osimhen would signal the club’s trust in the Nigerian international to lead a squad targeting further success in the Turkish Super Lig and European competitions.
For Osimhen, the appointment would add another chapter to an already impressive career and further reinforce his standing as one of Africa’s leading football figures.
