Ghana head coach Carlos Queiroz has named his final squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup following months of scouting, analysis and assessment of players eligible to represent the Black Stars at the global tournament.
The experienced coach selected a blend of established internationals and emerging talents as Ghana prepares for another appearance on football’s biggest stage. The tournament will be hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico, with the Black Stars aiming to make a strong impression.
In the goalkeeping department, Benjamin Asare, Lawrence Ati Zigi and Joseph Anang have been included in the final squad. Solomon Agbesi will also travel with the team as an additional member of the goalkeeping unit.
One notable change in the squad came in defence, where Derrick Luckassen earned a call-up after Alexander Djiku was ruled out through injury. The defender is expected to spend at least six weeks on the sidelines after suffering a hamstring problem, creating an opportunity for the Cyprus-based centre-back to join the squad.
Several experienced players retained their places in the team, including Gideon Mensah, Baba Abdul Rahman, Thomas Partey, Alidu Seidu, Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, Kamaldeen Sulemana, Antoine Semenyo, Iñaki Williams and captain Jordan Ayew. The group brings valuable World Cup experience and will be expected to play key leadership roles during the tournament.
The squad also includes a number of players set to make their FIFA World Cup debuts. Jerome Opoku, Kojo Oppong Peprah, Abdul Mumin, Benjamin Asare, Joseph Anang, Kwasi Sibo, Augustine Boakye, Caleb Yirenkyi, Christopher Bonsu Baah, Ernest Nuamah, Brandon Thomas Asante and Prince Kwabena Adu have all been given the opportunity to represent Ghana at the tournament for the first time.

From Cardiff to Philadelphia: Ghana Prepares to Reignite World Cup Hopes in Group L
Before the start of the World Cup, Ghana will face Wales in an international friendly in Cardiff on June 2. The match is expected to provide Queiroz with a final opportunity to fine-tune his squad before the team departs for Washington to complete preparations for the competition.
The Black Stars have been drawn in Group L and face a challenging route to the knockout stages. Their campaign will begin against Panama at BMO Field in Toronto on June 17. Ghana will then take on England at Boston Stadium on June 23 before concluding the group stage against Croatia at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on June 27.
With a balanced squad that combines experience and youthful energy, expectations will be high among Ghanaian supporters. The Black Stars remain one of Africa’s most respected football nations and will be hoping to build on their historic run to the quarter-finals at the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
Attention will now turn to the warm-up clash against Wales before Ghana begins its quest for World Cup success against Panama in what promises to be a highly competitive Group L campaign.
