Nigeria’s U20 women’s national team, the Falconets, have intensified their final preparations ahead of their crucial FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup qualifying fixture against Malawi. The first leg is scheduled for Saturday, May 2.

Head Coach Moses Aduku has expressed strong confidence in his squad’s readiness, emphasizing focus and commitment within the camp.

We have a full squad in camp and everyone is focused on the task ahead. Our attention is now on tactical work and team coordination. We are taking this very seriously, and I believe we will come out victorious,” Aduku said.

The team’s camp in Abuja is buzzing with positivity, as players maintain high morale and remain injury-free. Aduku also highlighted the depth and athleticism within the squad, acknowledging the challenge of blending players from different clubs in a short period, but expressing optimism about building a cohesive and competitive unit.

He also called on Nigerians for support:

We appeal to our supporters to keep praying for us, just as they did during our matches against Rwanda and Senegal. I am confident that Nigeria will secure a World Cup ticket after both legs against Malawi.”

The Falconets have been undergoing intensive training sessions as they fine-tune strategies for the encounter. The return leg will take place in Lilongwe on Saturday, May 9.

Nigeria advanced to the final qualifying round after a 3-1 aggregate victory over Senegal, having also recorded a dominant 5-0 aggregate win over Rwanda in the previous round.

Malawi, on the other hand, secured their place with a commanding 6-2 aggregate triumph over Guinea-Bissau, including a 5-1 win in Lilongwe after a 1-1 draw away in the first leg.
