Super Falcons Head Coach Justine Madugu has named a 23-player squad for Nigeria’s upcoming international friendly matches against Senegal, with captain Rasheedat Ajibade, star forward Asisat Oshoala and first-choice goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie headlining the list.
The friendlies form part of Nigeria’s preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), where the nine-time African champions will be aiming to reclaim continental glory.
Madugu has recalled experienced midfielder Ngozi Okobi-Okeoghene alongside forwards Francisca Ordega and Gift Monday, adding valuable experience and depth to the squad. The coach has also handed opportunities to Belarus-based forward Blessing Nkor and Turkey-based midfielder Kafayat Shittu, who will be hoping to make a strong impression ahead of the continental showpiece.
The squad features a blend of established internationals and emerging talents, including home-based goalkeeper Anderline Mgbechi, defender Rofiat Imuran, Israel-based defender Sikiratu Isah, versatile defender Tosin Demehin, midfielders Halimatu Ayinde and Toni Payne, as well as attacking duo Folashade Ijamilusi and Joy Omewa.
Also included are Christy Ucheibe, Shukurat Oladipo and Rinsola Babajide, all of whom enjoyed successful campaigns with their respective clubs, helping them secure domestic league titles during the recently concluded season.
Nigeria will host Senegal in two international friendly matches scheduled for June 5 and June 8 at the Remo Stars Sports Complex in Ikenne-Remo. The fixtures are expected to provide Madugu with a valuable opportunity to assess his squad ahead of a busy international calendar.
At the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, Senegal will compete in Group A alongside hosts Morocco, Algeria and Kenya. Nigeria, meanwhile, have been drawn in Group C, where they will face Egypt, Zambia and tournament debutants Malawi.
The competition, scheduled to take place from July 25 to August 16, will also serve as Africa’s qualification pathway for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil. The four semi-finalists will secure automatic qualification, while the fifth-placed team will advance to an intercontinental playoff tournament for another opportunity to reach the global finals.
