President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee, Habu Gumel, has called on Nigerians across the country to take part in the 2026 Olympic Day celebration scheduled for June 27, Trybal News reports.

He explained that the annual event, organised under Olympic Solidarity in partnership with the NOC Sport-for-All Commission, is aimed at encouraging a healthier lifestyle through regular physical activity.

Gumel noted that the initiative is open to people of all ages and is designed to promote key Olympic values such as excellence, friendship and respect, while also creating an opportunity for communities to come together through sport.

He stressed the importance of maintaining an active lifestyle, pointing out that simple exercises like walking and jogging can significantly improve overall health by burning calories, strengthening muscles and reducing stress levels.

According to him, this year’s edition will place special focus on bringing different generations together, encouraging both young and older participants to engage in shared sporting and recreational activities.

The NOC president revealed that invitations have already been sent to all states following the strong turnout recorded during the 2025 edition, and he urged state sports councils to begin preparations early to ensure another successful nationwide event.

He also appealed to corporate bodies and individuals to support the programme through sponsorship and partnerships, adding that such contributions would not only boost the event but also promote national unity and public wellbeing.

Chairman of the NOC Sport-for-All Commission, Abdul Ibrahim, also highlighted the importance of inclusiveness and social interaction in this year’s celebration, encouraging participants to involve friends and family, noting that exercising together can improve motivation and overall wellbeing.
