The President of the Nigeria Boxing Federation (NBF), Hon. Wale Edun, has urged Nigerian boxers to deliver strong performances in Thursday’s international friendly against Ghana in Accra.

Speaking to the team during a training session at the national camp in Lagos on Monday, Edun emphasized the importance of discipline, focus, and national pride as the athletes prepare for the trip.

He reminded the boxers of the responsibility that comes with representing Nigeria, stressing that the historic rivalry between Nigeria and Ghana demands maximum commitment even in a friendly contest.

You must be conscious of the national flag you carry and represent it with pride. The rivalry between Nigeria and Ghana knows no exception. Despite being a friendly match, you must fight for the pride of our nation,” Edun told the team.

A 17-man contingent made up of boxers, coaches, and officials is scheduled to depart Lagos on Wednesday, May 6, via the Murtala Muhammed International Airport at 7:00 a.m.

The bilateral tournament, set to take place on Thursday at the Accra Sports Stadium, is designed to assess the performance and readiness of both nations’ athletes ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
