Lille head coach Davide Ancelotti has identified Victor Osimhen as a major threat ahead of Wednesday night’s UEFA Champions League meeting with Galatasaray, insisting that his side must defend collectively to limit the Nigerian striker’s impact, Trybal News reports.
Osimhen returns to familiar surroundings for the encounter, having previously represented Lille before establishing himself as one of Europe’s most dangerous centre-forwards.
The Super Eagles striker has been in impressive form since the start of the campaign, contributing six goals and three assists in seven appearances across all competitions. Although he has gone without a goal or assist in his last two matches against Barcelona and Gençlerbirliği, his ability to change a game remains a concern for the French side.
Ancelotti believes assigning a single defender to deal with Osimhen would not be enough. Instead, Lille will need to work as a unit to restrict the forward’s movement and influence in the final third.
We stop him as a team. It doesn’t depend on one player; it always depends on the team,” Ancelotti said, according to Le Petit Lillois.

The Lille coach also pointed to Osimhen’s decisive role in Napoli’s historic Serie A title-winning campaign in 2022/23 as evidence of the damage he can inflict on opponents.
He’s a player who, in Naples, almost single-handedly won the Scudetto,” Ancelotti added.
Beyond Osimhen, Ancelotti acknowledged the threat posed by Galatasaray’s wider squad, highlighting the Turkish champions’ individual quality and the experience several of their players bring to European competition.
For Lille, the challenge will be to remain disciplined at both ends of the pitch without allowing Galatasaray’s attacking players the freedom to dictate proceedings.
Osimhen, meanwhile, will be looking to respond to his recent quiet spell by opening his Champions League scoring account for the campaign. With a return to a club he knows well providing the backdrop, the Nigerian forward has an opportunity to make a statement on one of European football’s biggest stages.
