Fulham are working to secure the long-term future of Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey, with the Premier League club keen to keep the versatile centre-back at Craven Cottage, Trybal News reports.
According to TEAMTALK, Fulham are preparing to offer the 26-year-old a new long-term contract, despite having an option to extend his existing deal by another year.
Bassey joined Fulham from Ajax in July 2023 on a four-year agreement and has since developed into one of the club’s most dependable performers. Capable of playing at both centre-back and left-back, he was named Fulham’s Player of the Season for the 2024/25 campaign.
The Nigeria international has continued to feature prominently under new head coach Álvaro Arbeloa, starting Fulham’s opening three Premier League matches of the season.
Bassey’s physicality, recovery pace and quality on the left side have made him an important part of Fulham’s defensive plans. He has made 105 appearances for the club across all competitions since his arrival from Amsterdam.
Fulham’s priority is understood to be continuity, with the club keen to retain a defender who has established himself at Premier League level. Bassey is also understood to be settled in West London, making a new agreement a realistic possibility.
There has also been interest from Serie A, with Inter Milan among the clubs to have monitored the defender in recent transfer windows. However, Bassey remains focused on Fulham, with his future likely to become clearer as discussions over a new deal develop.
Fulham have endured a difficult start to the new campaign, losing their opening three league matches, and will hope to turn their fortunes around while also keeping one of their key defensive assets on board.
