Nigeria’s preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) have gathered momentum, with only six players yet to report to the team’s training camp in Casablanca, Morocco, Trybal News reports.

The defending champions now have 19 of the 25 invited players in camp as head coach Justine Madugu steps up preparations for the Super Falcons’ opening Group B fixture against Malawi on July 28.

Midfield duo Halimatu Ayinde and Joy Omewa, both of Swedish club BK Häcken, arrived in Casablanca on Sunday and joined their teammates after the squad’s evening training session at the La Noria Club. Defender Osinachi Ohale and forward Chinwendu Ihezuo, who both play for Mexican side Pachuca Tuzas, were also en route to Morocco.

The growing squad has boosted preparations, with key players including captain Rasheedat Ajibade, goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, defenders Shukurat Oladipo, Oluwatosin Demehin and Christy Ucheibe, midfielders Toni Payne and Jennifer Echegini, as well as experienced forwards Asisat Oshoala, Francisca Ordega and Omorinsola Babajide already involved in training.

The remaining six players expected to join camp are defender Michelle Alozie, midfielder Deborah Abiodun, and forwards Gift Monday, Esther Okoronkwo, Folashade Ijamilusi and Uchenna Kanu.

Nigeria will be aiming to retain the continental title when the tournament kicks off in Morocco, with the Super Falcons seeking to extend their record as Africa’s most successful women’s national team.
