Nigeria’s U20 national team, the Flying Eagles, have been drawn in Group B of the 2026 WAFU B U20 Championship alongside rivals Ghana, Togo and Burkina Faso, Trybal News reports.

The draw for the regional tournament, which will be hosted by Côte d’Ivoire, was conducted on Wednesday and placed the Flying Eagles in a challenging group featuring Ghana’s Black Satellites, Togo’s Junior Sparrow Hawks and Burkina Faso’s Young Stallions. Group A consists of hosts Côte d’Ivoire, Benin Republic and Niger Republic.

Head coach Aliyu Zubairu and his squad are scheduled to depart Nigeria next Monday with a 23-man contingent as they aim to secure one of the two available qualification spots for the 2027 U20 Africa Cup of Nations in Ghana.

Nigeria head into the tournament as defending champions, having defeated Ghana 2-1 in the final of the previous edition held in Lomé, Togo, in 2024. The Flying Eagles are also one of Africa’s most successful youth teams, boasting seven U20 Africa Cup of Nations titles and two FIFA U20 World Cup runner-up finishes.
