A high level CAF delegation has completed an eight day inspection tour of Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania as preparations gather pace for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
The visit focused on key facilities and infrastructure that will support the tournament across the three host nations.
They worked closely with representatives of the three host governments and their respective Local Organising Committees.
The tournament will return to East Africa for the first time in more than five decades. Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda will jointly host AFCON 2027 from 19 June to 17 July 2027.
CAF Reviews Stadiums and Key Facilities
In Kenya, the CAF delegation inspected the newly built Talanta Stadium in Nairobi. The venue has a capacity of 60,000 and forms a major part of the country’s tournament plans.
The officials also visited training grounds, team hotels and match official hotels. They assessed airport facilities and other important sites linked to Nairobi’s tournament infrastructure.
The inspection then moved to Uganda and Tanzania. There, CAF officials reviewed stadiums, training facilities, hotels, airports and other supporting infrastructure.
Among the major venues inspected were Mandela National Stadium in Kampala and Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
The inspections also benefited from the experience of representatives from the three host countries at the recent Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Members of the Local Organising Committees joined a CAF led observer mission during the tournament. They gained practical experience in stadium operations, security, media management and matchday delivery.
CAF said the latest visits form part of its wider inspection programme across Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. The governing body will continue its technical assessments and discussions with the host nations ahead of the tournament.
The aim remains clear. CAF wants the three countries to provide world class facilities and infrastructure when Africa’s biggest football tournament arrives in East Africa next year.
Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda can also draw confidence from their recent joint hosting of the 2024 African Nations Championship, CHAN.
That experience provides a strong foundation for the three nations as they prepare to welcome teams, supporters, officials and visitors from across Africa and beyond for AFCON 2027.
