Ademola Lookman provided a crucial assist as Atletico Madrid recovered from a first-half deficit to secure a 1-1 draw against Stuttgart in the UEFA Champions League, despite playing with 10 men in the second half, Trybal News reports.

The Nigerian forward was introduced at the beginning of the second half and made an immediate impact, setting up Julian Alvarez for Atletico’s equaliser shortly after the restart.

Stuttgart had dominated much of the opening period, putting Atletico goalkeeper Jan Oblak under sustained pressure before taking the lead towards half-time. Jamie Leweling’s effort from outside the penalty area took a deflection off Martin Hjulmand, leaving Oblak unable to prevent the ball from entering the net.

Atletico responded positively after the interval, with Lookman playing a decisive role in their comeback. The forward delivered a cross that Alvarez converted first time into the top corner, restoring parity and giving the visitors renewed momentum.

Lookman’s contribution extended beyond the assist, as he recorded one shot, completed five of his seven passes, registered 16 touches and made two defensive contributions during his second-half appearance.

However, Atletico’s prospects of securing all three points suffered a setback midway through the second half when Hjulmand was shown a straight red card for a high challenge on Angelo Stiller.

With a numerical advantage, Stuttgart pushed forward in search of a winner, forcing Diego Simeone’s side to defend deep. The hosts created several opportunities but failed to find a breakthrough, allowing Atletico to leave Germany with a point.

The result gives Atletico four points from their opening three Champions League league-phase matches, while Stuttgart move to seven points.

Lookman’s assist underlined his ability to influence a contest from the bench, with the Nigerian forward providing the decisive attacking moment that helped Atletico avoid defeat away from home.
