Swedish club AIK Football have strengthened their long-term development project with the signing of Nigerian midfielder Oreoluwa Agbenla from Beyond Limits FA on a deal that will keep him at the club until the end of 2030, Trybal News reports

The 18-year-old becomes the latest Nigerian talent to make the move to Stockholm, underlining AIK’s growing confidence in the country’s youth development system and their willingness to invest early in high-potential players.

Born on July 12, 2008, Agbenla joins from Beyond Limits FA, the academy side affiliated with Nigerian champions Remo Stars. While he has signed a professional agreement with AIK’s first team, the arrangement will initially see him continue his development within the club’s academy structure before competing for a place in the senior squad.

Agbenla arrives in Sweden with a reputation as an intelligent and energetic midfielder capable of influencing matches in both defensive and attacking phases. Comfortable operating between the boxes, he combines positional discipline with the ability to support attacks and arrive in dangerous areas around the penalty box.

AIK’s interest in the midfielder was not developed overnight. Club scouts had followed his progress throughout 2025 and were given further opportunities to assess him during the Gothia Cup, where Beyond Limits FA showcased some of Nigeria’s brightest emerging talents on the international stage.

The club’s Head of Recruitment, Miika Takkula, highlighted Agbenla’s tactical maturity and technical qualities as key reasons behind the decision to bring him to Stockholm, pointing to his balance between defensive responsibility and attacking contribution, as well as his comfort in possession and ability to combine with teammates in advanced areas.

The transfer comes during a period in which AIK have enjoyed considerable success with Nigerian prospects. Earlier this summer, fellow Nigerian youngster Zadok Yohanna completed a move to Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion after making a strong impression in Sweden.

Although Agbenla arrives with a different profile and skill set, AIK will hope his pathway follows a similarly successful trajectory as the club continues to position itself as an attractive destination for some of Africa’s most promising young players.

For Agbenla, the move represents the next step in a promising career and an opportunity to continue his development in one of Scandinavia’s most competitive football environments.
