Promising wide forward Seun Akanji has completed a transfer from Sporting Lagos to Lillestrøm SK, signing a contract that will keep him at the Norwegian side until the summer of 2030, Trybal News reports.
The move concludes a process that began in January 2025 when Akanji spent time on trial with Lillestrøm as a 16-year-old, impressing club officials enough for the Eliteserien side to secure an option to sign him upon reaching the age of 18.
Following the completion of the transfer, Akanji expressed his delight at securing the move and beginning the next phase of his career in Norway.
I’m incredibly happy to be here. Signing for a fantastic club like this means a lot to me. This is a big dream come true, and I’m ready to give everything I have for the club,” he said.
Reflecting on his previous visit to the club, Akanji added:
It was exciting to be here for a trial game last time. Now I am incredibly happy, and not least proud, to sign a contract with LSK. I have had a great start and have been very well received by both my teammates and the coaches.”
Lillestrøm Sporting Director Espen Olsen believes the youngster has the attributes to develop into an important player for the club.
Seun impressed us a lot when he was on trial as a 16-year-old in January 2025. Now he is finally formally ready for LSK, and we are really looking forward to further developing him here at the club. He is an exciting and explosive player in whom we see great potential,” Olsen said.
Akanji arrives in Norway after playing a key role in Sporting Lagos’ successful 2025/26 campaign, helping the club secure the Nigeria National League title and seal an immediate return to the NPFL. He had previously distinguished himself with a string of impressive performances for the club’s academy side in the TCC League during the 2024/25 season.
The transfer marks another important milestone in Akanji’s development as one of the emerging talents from the Nigerian football scene and offers the 18-year-old an opportunity to continue his progression in one of Scandinavia’s established football environments.
