Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah has congratulated Rangers International following the club’s dramatic triumph in the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League season, describing the achievement as another proud moment for Enugu football.
The crucial win ensured Rangers International finished the campaign on 68 points, just one point ahead of Rivers United, who defeated Katsina United 3-0 in Port Harcourt but ultimately fell short in the title race.
Celebrations immediately erupted among Rangers supporters after the final whistle, as the Enugu club reclaimed the league crown for the second time under Governor Mbah’s administration.
Reacting to the success, the governor praised the determination shown by the players, coaching staff and management throughout the season, stating that the team had once again restored the club’s historic reputation in Nigerian football.
“On behalf of the government and people of Enugu State, I convey our profound congratulations on your deserved and hard-fought ninth league title.
“You have not only reclaimed the title won in the 2023/2024 season, but restored Enugu’s glory as a hub of champions. You have reenacted the heroics of Rangers of old and walked the path of our revered legends,” Mbah said.
The governor further stated that the triumph justified the continued investment made by his administration into Rangers International and sports development across the state.
According to him, the latest title success would also serve as a major morale boost ahead of the 27th National Sports Festival, which will be hosted by Enugu State in November.
The latest achievement adds another memorable chapter to Rangers rich history and continues the resurgence witnessed by the club in recent seasons.
In 2024, Rangers had ended an eight year wait for league glory after winning the 2023/24 NPFL title with one game to spare following a 2-0 victory over Bendel Insurance at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu.
That success, which marked the club’s eighth league crown and first since 2016, had been confirmed after title rivals Remo Stars and Enyimba both suffered defeats on matchday 37.
Remo Stars lost 2-1 away to Sunshine Stars in Akure, while Enyimba were beaten by the same scoreline against relegation threatened Sporting Lagos at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena.
Now, with a ninth title secured, Rangers International have further cemented their place among the most successful clubs in Nigerian football history, with only Enyimba boasting more league triumphs.
