Sporting Lagos are back in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) after clinching promotion from the Nigeria National League (NNL) with a narrow but crucial 1-0 victory over Osun United on Thursday in Ileogbo, Osun State.

The decisive moment came through Alex Leme, whose goal proved enough to separate both sides. In goal, Clinton Lawal delivered a standout performance, making several key saves to ensure his team held on to the slim advantage until the final whistle.

The win confirmed Sporting Lagos as leaders of NNL Conference B with 36 points, just ahead of Akwa United, who finished on 35 points after edging Solution FC 2-1 in Awka. With only a point separating both teams before the final round of matches, anything short of victory would have seen Sporting Lagos lose out on promotion to their rivals.

Their return to the NPFL marks a quick comeback after relegation in 2024, when they dropped out of the top division after just one season. Now, they rejoin the elite league alongside Inter Lagos and Ikorodu City, giving Lagos three representatives in the upcoming NPFL season.

Elsewhere, Doma United have already secured promotion, while three other spots remain undecided across the NNL conferences. The final ticket in Conference D will be contested between Jigawa Golden Stars and Ranchers Bees.

All promoted teams will face off in the Super 4 play-offs in Ikenne to determine the overall NNL champions once the regular season concludes.
