Super Eagles internationals Raphael Onyedika and Terem Moffi were both on the scoresheet as Eintracht Frankfurt defeated Hamburger SV 3-1 in Sunday’s Bundesliga encounter at Deutsche Bank Park, Trybal News reports.

The Nigerian duo found the net for their respective clubs in an entertaining contest, with Frankfurt eventually claiming all three points after a strong second-half performance.

Frankfurt took the lead in the 10th minute through a Warmed Omari own goal after Farès Chaïbi’s delivery caused problems in the Hamburg penalty area. However, the visitors responded just four minutes later when Moffi restored parity.

The Hamburg forward reacted quickly after Albert Grønbæk played the ball into his path, finishing from close range to register his second goal against Frankfurt in the space of five days, having also scored in their DFB-Pokal meeting on 27 October.

Frankfurt regained the advantage shortly after the restart. In the 47th minute, goalkeeper Daniel Heuer Fernandes could only parry a header from Lilian Brassier following a corner, allowing Onyedika to react quickest and fire home from close range.

The goal marked Onyedika’s first competitive strike for Frankfurt since completing his summer move from Belgian champions Club Brugge. The 25-year-old Nigerian midfielder signed a contract with the German club until June 2031 and has quickly established himself in the team’s midfield.

Frankfurt eventually sealed the victory in the 69th minute when Younes Ebnoutalib finished off a well-worked move after receiving a pass from Can Uzun.

For Moffi, the goal continues an encouraging start to life in German football. The 27-year-old striker joined Hamburg from French side OGC Nice in August after spending the second half of last season on loan at Portuguese giants FC Porto.

His latest strike takes his tally to three goals in nine appearances across all competitions since arriving in Germany, providing further evidence of his growing influence in Hamburg’s attack.

Despite the defeat, Moffi will take confidence from another productive outing, while Onyedika will be encouraged by opening his Frankfurt goal account and contributing to an important home victory.

The result moves Frankfurt up to eighth place in the Bundesliga standings, while Hamburg remain 15th after eight rounds of matches.
