The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed Nigerian administrator Samson Adamu as its substantive General Secretary.

The appointment makes Adamu the first Nigerian to hold the position in CAF’s 70 year history. He previously served as Acting General Secretary after the departure of Véron Mosengo Omba.

Adamu took up the acting role on Sunday, 29 March 2026, following the resignation of the Swiss Congolese administrator. His confirmation now gives him the position on a permanent basis.

The son of former FIFA Executive Committee member Amos Adamu has built his career through several senior roles at CAF. These include Director of Competitions and Director of Tournaments and Events.

He is a highly-knowledgeable individual who has never stopped improving himself, and he is well-rounded in the business of football administration,” acting General Secretary, Dr Emmanuel Ikpeme told thenff.com.

Ikpeme also assured Adamu of the federation’s support as he takes on the new role.
