Arsenal fear Bukayo Saka could miss at least six weeks after suffering a quadriceps injury in their 2-2 Champions League draw against Bayern Munich.

The 25 year old winger picked up the injury at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday and had to leave the pitch. He will undergo another MRI scan on Friday afternoon to help doctors assess the full extent of the damage.

Fluid around the affected muscle has made it difficult for Arsenal’s medical team to determine how serious the injury is. However, early examinations suggest Saka could be out for a minimum of six weeks, with a longer absence also possible.

Saka faces key Arsenal and England games

If the initial assessment proves correct, Saka will miss several important matches for Arsenal. He is also likely to miss England’s upcoming Uefa Nations League fixtures against Croatia and Spain.

Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta urged caution while the club waits for further medical results.

“We need a few more scans and opinions from the specialists,” said Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta.

“When a player has to walk off the pitch, he is struggling to walk without any pain, and is restricted to movement; it is not a good sign. Let’s be a little bit patient so we can give a definitive assessment.

“He’s got another MRI as there was quite a lot of fluid in the area so it was quite difficult to understand the extent of the injury. We will know more tomorrow.”

Saka will miss Arsenal’s home Premier League match against Everton on Saturday. The Gunners sit second in the table and will look to cut the three point gap to leaders Manchester City.

The latest setback adds to a difficult period for the England international, who has struggled with several fitness problems in recent months.

An Achilles injury in March affected his involvement towards the end of last season. It also limited his playing time with England at the World Cup. Saka missed the March international break and seven matches for Arsenal before returning to help the club win the Premier League title for the first time in 22 years.

He started the Champions League final against Paris St Germain but came off after 54 minutes in the defeat. At the World Cup, he started only three of England’s eight matches. However, he scored a hat trick in their 6 to 4 victory over France in the third place play off.

Saka has also dealt with other injuries. He underwent surgery on a hamstring problem in December 2024, which kept him out for 101 days during the 2024 to 2025 campaign.

Despite those setbacks, he made 49 appearances as Arsenal won the title last season. His campaign included further fitness concerns, with a hip problem forcing him to withdraw during the warm up before a match against Leeds in January. A separate hamstring issue then kept him out for around four weeks.

Arsenal will now wait for the results of Friday’s scan before confirming the extent of Saka’s latest injury and how long he may be sidelined.
