Trabzonspor interim coach Hüseyin Çimşir has eased concerns over Paul Onuachu fitness after the striker suffered an injury during Sunday’s 5-0 win over Gençlerbirliği.
Onuachu delivered a strong performance before leaving the pitch. The Nigeria international scored twice in the Turkish Süper Lig clash before the injury forced his early withdrawal.
The striker opened the scoring just five minutes into the match. He then struck again in the 22nd minute to put Trabzonspor firmly in control.
However, Onuachu could not complete the first half. Çimşir replaced him with new signing Franculino Dju in the 44th minute.
The early substitution raised concerns about a possible lengthy absence. Nevertheless, Çimşir moved quickly to calm those fears after the match.
“I don’t think it’s anything serious. There’s no problem,” Çimşir was quoted as saying by NTV Spor.
Onuachu Expected Back for Konyaspor Clash
Çimşir also expressed confidence that Onuachu will recover in time for Trabzonspor’s next league fixture. The coach’s comments will come as a relief to the club and its supporters.
Onuachu has started every league match for Trabzonspor this season. He has played 311 minutes across four Süper Lig appearances and has scored twice.
His latest brace against Gençlerbirliği also underlined his importance to Trabzonspor’s attack. The Black Sea Storm will hope he can return quickly as they prepare for their next league assignment.
Trabzonspor will travel to face Konyaspor in their next Süper Lig fixture. The club will now monitor Onuachu’s condition ahead of that match.
For now, Çimşir’s assessment suggests the injury should not keep the Nigerian striker out for long. Trabzonspor will therefore hope Onuachu can continue his role in their strong start to the season.
