Arthur Okonkwo has earned a place in the Nigeria squad for the Super Eagles opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau, Trybal News reports.
Charlton Athletic disclosed the development on Monday, with the Championship club revealing that the 24-year-old goalkeeper has been invited by Nigeria for the two fixtures later this month.
The call-up comes as Okonkwo continues to establish himself at senior international level following his decision to switch allegiance from England to Nigeria.
The former Arsenal academy goalkeeper made his Super Eagles debut at the 2026 Unity Cup in London, keeping clean sheets in Nigeria’s victories over Zimbabwe and Jamaica as the team retained the title.
Okonkwo is currently spending the season with Charlton on loan from Wrexham, where he was part of the side that secured back-to-back promotions.
His latest invitation gives him another opportunity to push for a regular role in Nigeria’s goalkeeping department as the Super Eagles begin their road to the 2027 AFCON, which will be hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
Nigeria will welcome Madagascar to the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on September 23 before travelling to face Guinea-Bissau four days later.
The Super Eagles are in Group L alongside Madagascar, Guinea-Bissau and co-hosts Tanzania.
