Edo Queens reclaimed the WAFU-B Women’s Champions League title on Saturday in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. The Nigerian champions fought back twice in regulation time to secure a 2-2 draw against Ghanaian side Ampem Darkoa.

They then held their nerve to win the penalty shootout 4-1, booking their place in the upcoming CAF Women’s Champions League finals.

Ampem Darkoa struck early when Beline Nyarkoh scored in the second minute. However, Edo Queens answered immediately as Doosuur Anastasia Atume leveled the score just two minutes later.

Ampem Darkoa regained the lead in the 74th minute through Nyarkoh’s second goal of the match. With time running out, Oluebube Umejiaku delivered a dramatic equalizer in the 94th minute to force penalties. Edo Queens dominated the shootout, converting four spot-kicks while restricting their rivals to a single success.

Edo Queens Historic Redemption and Continental Pursuit

This victory marks a major comeback for Edo Queens, who suffered their only loss of the tournament against Ampem Darkoa in the group stage. Before the final, the Nigerian side demonstrated their dominant form by routing host team USFA 5-1 in the semi-finals, while Ampem Darkoa defeated FC Dynamique 4-1.

The triumph grants Edo Queens another opportunity to shine on the main stage. The club previously won the regional crown during their 2024 debut before earning a fourth-place finish at the main tournament later that year. Beyond capturing a trophy, Saturday’s dramatic win highlights the squad’s impressive mental strength.
