Calvin Bassey has earned praise from former Liverpool and Tottenham midfielder Jamie Redknapp after Fulham’s 1-1 draw with Aston Villa.

Speaking on Sky Sports Premier League, Redknapp described the Super Eagles defender as an undervalued player who does not always receive the recognition his performances deserve.

He also highlighted Bassey’s growing leadership at Fulham. The defender has taken on greater responsibility and continues to impress with his steady displays.

Redknapp praised Bassey’s work as a left sided centre back, a role that can be difficult to fill. The defender has also attracted reported interest from high profile clubs, including Manchester United.

“I like that. I like him actually. I’m a fan of his. I think this year he’s now the team captain. He’s a leader. You can see he wants to defend. Left-side centre-back, which is obviously harder to find as well, and I think he’s only twenty-five, 26 years of age. He feels like he’s getting better every year,” Redknapp said.

The pundit added that Bassey continues to improve and plays an important role in the dressing room. He also credited Fulham for their performance against Villa, particularly in the second half.

“I don’t think he gets the sort of flowers he deserves, to be honest. You know, I think we probably look at what players can’t do, but every year he seems to improve, and he’s obviously a leader in that dressing room as well, as the manager’s gone in there and identified that, and I’m very impressed with him again today. But I agree with him to a certain extent. Second half, Aston Villa was so poor, but a lot of that, as I said, was credit to Fulham for the way they played,” he concluded.

Calvin Bassey Delivers Another Solid Display

Calvin Bassey played the full 90 minutes against Aston Villa and contributed to Fulham’s defensive effort.

He won four of his eight ground duels, made one clearance and recorded two recoveries. The defender also completed 90% of his passes and had 81 touches.

Bassey registered one shot on goal and covered 10.9 kilometres during the match.

His performance adds to a run of consistent displays for Fulham. Redknapp’s comments reflect the growing regard for the 25 year old, whose defensive strength and leadership continue to make him an important figure for club and country.
