Victor Osimhen scored twice to lead Galatasaray to a 2-1 victory over Fenerbahce in the Intercontinental Derby, extending the club’s unbeaten run against their rivals to five consecutive Turkish Super Lig meetings and restoring their position at the top of the table, Trybal News reports.
The Nigerian international broke the deadlock in the 29th minute, finishing clinically into the bottom corner after receiving a pass from Baris Alper Yilmaz. He struck again in the 44th minute, redirecting Davinson Sanchez’s effort into the net to give Galatasaray a commanding advantage before half-time.
Osimhen continued to pose a threat after the restart, as Galatasaray sought to extend their lead. Both the striker and Ismail Jakobs came close to scoring with headers that struck the woodwork.
Fenerbahce reduced the deficit in the 62nd minute when Irfan Can Kahveci produced a spectacular bicycle kick, setting up a tense final period. However, Galatasaray resisted their rivals attempts to find an equaliser and secured all three points.
The forward recorded seven shots, with three on target, converting two into goals. He completed seven of his 10 passes and registered 25 touches. In individual duels, he won two of four ground duels and two of four aerial duels.
His clinical finishing proved decisive in a fiercely contested encounter, underlining his importance to Galatasaray’s attacking ambitions.
The victory represented Galatasaray’s fourth win in their last five matches across all competitions, lifting them back to the summit of the Turkish Super Lig. Fenerbahce, meanwhile, remained fifth, having won just once in their previous four league matches.
Osimhen’s brace provided the decisive difference in one of Turkish football’s most significant fixtures, strengthening Galatasaray’s title challenge while extending their recent advantage over their Istanbul rivals.
