Nigerian forward George Ilenikhena made an impressive return to Saudi Pro League action, scoring once and providing an assist as Al-Ittihad secured a convincing 4-1 victory over Al-Ettifaq, Trybal News reports.
The 20-year-old had missed Al-Ittihad’s October 10 encounter against Al-Hilal after struggling to recover from a minor injury sustained during Nigeria’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.
Despite the setback, Ilenikhena featured for the Super Eagles against Guinea-Bissau, coming off the bench for the final 14 minutes as Nigeria attempted to overturn a two-goal deficit.
Back in club colours, the former Monaco prospect wasted little time making his presence felt, opening the scoring in the 16th minute with a powerful first-time finish from his left foot after a clever backheel from Richard Ríos.
The goal took his tally to five in the Saudi Pro League this season, briefly placing him alongside Steven Bergwijn and Youssef En-Nesyri as Al-Ittihad’s leading scorers in the competition.
Al-Ettifaq restored parity through Sultan Ali Harun in the 34th minute, but Ilenikhena remained influential after the break. In the 54th minute, he turned provider, setting up Houssem Aouar to put Al-Ittihad back in front.
En-Nesyri then took centre stage in the closing stages, scoring twice to complete the 4-1 victory and ensure the hosts collected all three points.
Ilenikhena’s latest contribution further strengthens his growing reputation following an encouraging start to his international career with Nigeria.
The forward announced himself to Super Eagles supporters last month when he scored a crucial equaliser shortly before half-time against Madagascar. Nigeria subsequently completed a 2-1 comeback victory in Uyo, giving the young striker an immediate impact on his international debut.
His latest performance for Al-Ittihad will provide further encouragement for Nigeria as the forward continues to establish himself at both club and international level.
