Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen is expected to spend around 2–3 weeks on the sidelines after sustaining a right adductor strain, Trybal News reports.
Osimhen suffered the injury during Galatasaray’s 3-2 victory over Istanbul Başakşehir on Friday and was forced off in the 33rd minute.
The Nigerian forward had already put Galatasaray ahead before being substituted, scoring with a header after rising to meet Aral Şimşir’s cross.
Following further examinations at Acıbadem Hospital, Galatasaray confirmed that a moderate-to-advanced level strain, accompanied by bleeding, was detected in Osimhen’s right adductor muscle group.
The club also confirmed a similar injury for midfielder Mario Lemina, with treatment for both players already underway.
Osimhen’s expected 2–3 week recovery period could see him miss Nigeria’s upcoming matches against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau, depending on his recovery and return to full training.
The Super Eagles are scheduled to face Madagascar in Uyo on September 25 before travelling to Guinea-Bissau four days later.
His potential absence would be a significant setback for Eric Chelle, with Osimhen one of Nigeria’s leading attacking threats and a key player in the team’s plans.
The injury is also likely to affect Galatasaray’s immediate schedule, with Osimhen facing a spell out as the Turkish champions juggle domestic and European commitments.
For now, the focus will be on Osimhen’s recovery, with both Galatasaray and Nigeria hoping the striker can return within the expected timeframe.
