The Besiktas captain timed his run perfectly to get on the end of Salih Ozcan’s pass in behind the Palace defence before calmly beating goalkeeper Walter Benitez. His goal rewarded the Turkish side’s growing influence in the contest after Palace had threatened to take control during the opening exchanges.

The visitors started brightly, with Jean-Philippe Mateta having an early effort ruled out for offside before Chris Richards came close with a header that landed on top of Alexander Nubel’s net. Tyrick Mitchell and Mateta also threatened as Palace looked to impose themselves, while Besiktas gradually found their rhythm.

The hosts suffered a setback in the 39th minute when Fabio Miretti was forced off through injury. However, substitute Ozcan made a telling contribution by setting up Ndidi’s opener just before the interval.

Palace responded strongly after the restart, drawing level in the 52nd minute when Yeremy Pino guided Anan Khalaili’s low cross past Nubel. Two minutes later, Mateta capitalised on a misplaced pass from Tiago Djalo and fired home to give the visitors a 2-1 lead.

Besiktas refused to back down, and substitute Junior Olaitan restored parity in the 73rd minute with an excellent strike from outside the penalty area, finding the bottom corner to make it 2-2.

The contest took another dramatic turn five minutes later when Umit Akdag was sent off for a reckless challenge on Jorgen Strand Larsen, who was subsequently forced off with an injury. Despite playing with ten men, Besiktas held on to secure a point.

The draw ended Besiktas run of four consecutive home victories in European competition and brought their perfect start to this season’s Europa League league phase to an end. They nevertheless remain unbeaten in continental competition, while Crystal Palace moved to four points in the league phase.

Ndidi’s first-half strike proved crucial in a fiercely contested encounter, giving Besiktas the advantage before Crystal Palace mounted their second-half comeback. Despite the visitors taking the lead, the Turkish side showed resilience to fight back through Olaitan and secure a point in front of their home supporters.
