Nigeria’s world record holder in the women’s 100m hurdles, Tobi Amusan, continued her impressive resurgence with a commanding victory at the Paris Diamond League, delivering her fastest performance of the season to underline her growing title credentials ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Games, Trybal News reports.
Amusan opened her campaign by winning her qualifying heat in 12.39 seconds (+0.4m/s), finishing ahead of Dutch hurdler Nadine Visser, who clocked a season’s best of 12.44s, while Jamaica’s Demisha Roswell secured the final automatic qualification spot in 12.46s.

The Nigerian star raised the bar in the final, producing a superb run to claim victory in a season’s best of 12.28 seconds under a legal +0.7m/s tailwind.
Running from lane four, Amusan reacted sharply to the gun with a reaction time of 0.135 seconds before producing a technically accomplished race, combining clean hurdle clearance with her trademark finishing speed to comfortably secure the win.
American Grace Stark finished second in 12.38s, while compatriot Alaysha Johnson claimed third in 12.39s. Visser improved on her heat performance to finish fourth in another season’s best of 12.41s.
The victory is another significant step in Amusan’s return to peak form after two challenging seasons. Having steadily improved with each outing this year, the Nigerian has rediscovered the rhythm, confidence and technical precision that made her one of the world’s most dominant sprint hurdlers.
Her latest triumph also earned the maximum 21 Diamond League qualification points, moving her to the top of the standings after four of the eight qualifying meetings and placing her in a strong position to secure a place at the Diamond League Final.
With the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow fast approaching, Amusan’s performance sends a clear statement to her rivals. The reigning Commonwealth champion will be aiming to defend the title she won in Gold Coast in 2018 and retained in Birmingham in 2022, and her current form suggests she is once again among the leading contenders for gold.
As the World Championships also draw closer, Amusan’s resurgence is a major boost for Team Nigeria. Her performance in Paris reaffirmed that the world record holder is rediscovering the speed, consistency and composure that propelled her to global success, making her one of the athletes to watch in the months ahead.
