Team Nigeria continued its impressive showing at the 2026 Commonwealth Games by claiming silver in the men’s 4x100m relay after a fiercely contested final in Glasgow, Trybal News reports.

The Nigerian quartet of Kayinsola Ajayi, Favour Ashe, Udodi Onwuzurike and Adekalu Fakorede clocked 38.12 seconds to finish second, missing out on gold by just 0.05 seconds. Australia secured the title in 38.07 seconds, while Ghana settled for bronze in 38.13 seconds after one of the closest sprint relay finishes of the championships.

Nigeria’s relay team delivered a composed performance from start to finish, with clean baton exchanges and a strong anchor leg keeping them in contention until the final metres. Their silver medal further highlights the country’s growing strength in the sprint events.

The result crowns an outstanding Games for Nigeria’s male sprinters. Earlier in the competition, Kayinsola Ajayi won bronze in the men’s 100m to end Nigeria’s two-decade wait for a Commonwealth medal in the event, while Udodi Onwuzurike claimed silver in the men’s 200m. The relay podium finish now completes an impressive campaign for the sprint squad.

The medal also adds to Nigeria’s growing success in athletics, with several athletes delivering podium finishes across track and field events to help Team Nigeria maintain one of its strongest Commonwealth Games performances in recent history.

Despite narrowly missing out on gold, the Nigerian quartet once again demonstrated its ability to compete with the very best, reinforcing the country’s status as one of the leading sprint nations in the Commonwealth.
