The Nigerian produced a season-best leap of 6.87m to finish second behind England’s Jazmin Sawyers, who successfully defended her Commonwealth title with a winning jump of 6.93m. Australia’s Brooke Buschkuehl took bronze after registering 6.80m.

Usoro remained composed throughout the competition before producing the jump that secured her place on the podium, further cementing her reputation as one of Nigeria’s most consistent performers on the international stage.

The silver medal adds to an impressive career for the Texas Tech University graduate, who rose to prominence after becoming one of the most decorated athletes in NCAA history, winning multiple collegiate titles in both the long jump and triple jump. She has since represented Nigeria at the Olympic Games, World Athletics Championships, African Championships and Commonwealth Games.

Her latest success also strengthens Nigeria’s remarkable campaign in Glasgow, with Team Nigeria continuing to collect medals across athletics, para-athletics, weightlifting, para powerlifting, swimming and judo.

With Usoro’s silver, Nigeria’s medal tally now stands at 23 medals, 10 gold, eight silver and five bronze as the country continues to rank among the standout nations at the Games.

Usoro’s achievement also highlights the significant contribution of Nigeria’s female athletes, who have played a leading role in the country’s medal success throughout the competition.
